Console Table Styling: 6 Ideas for Entryways and Living Rooms
Simple console table styling ideas using trays, lamps, mirrors, and negative space.
Start with a landing zone
The first job of a console is to catch the things you put down when you walk in. A tray for keys, mail, and sunglasses keeps the surface organized and makes the styling look intentional.
1. Add a mirror above it
A mirror above a console brightens an entryway and makes the space feel larger. It also gives you a place for a last look before you leave. Keep the bottom of the mirror a few inches above the table so the two pieces do not crowd each other.
2. Use one lamp, not two
A single lamp is usually enough on a console. Two lamps can look symmetrical but also busy, especially on a narrow piece. If the console is long, two small lamps can work; otherwise, one lamp and one object is better.
3. Add height with a vase or branches
A console needs something vertical to break up the horizontal line. A vase with branches, a tall candlestick, or a leaning piece of art adds height without taking up much surface.
4. Keep the center clear
Leave the middle of the console open. This gives you a place to put down a bag or a cup and keeps the arrangement from feeling like a display shelf.
5. Use a basket for hidden storage
A woven basket under the console or on a lower shelf hides gloves, dog leashes, or extra mail. It adds texture and keeps the surface calm.
6. Edit with the seasons
A console is easy to restyle because it has a small surface. Change one object, such as a bowl or a candle, rather than replacing everything. A single seasonal change keeps the piece feeling fresh without a shopping trip.
